Ministry of the Attorney General |
|
BACKGROUND: |
|
|
|
Ministry of the Attorney General of the
province of Ontario is responsible for providing a fair and
accessible justice system which reflects the needs of the diverse
communities it serves across government and the province. The
Criminal Law Division through Crown Attorney Offices is responsible
for the conduct in Ontario of prosecutions under the Criminal Code
and other Federal Statutes. |
| |
|
OUR EXPERTISE: |
|
|
|
Our work with
the Ministry of the Attorney General demonstrates our capability to
provide on going application software and system support –
making sure that the users of the system have an effective and
efficient support so they can manage the crown operation functions
without any problem. |
|
|
|
THE CHALLENGE: |
|
|
|
In the early 1990’s, the Ministry initiated a software development
project called “Case Tracking System” to computerise the operations
of crown attorney’s offices. After the launch of the first phase of
the project, the ministry lost the team of developers. In 1996, the
Ministry approached Aimsoft as it was having serious problems with
the application software and there was no one familiar with it to
provide support. Both the
system
as well as the application software were non Y2K compliant
precipitating a serious situation for the mission-critical systems
of the crown’s office. The databases have confidential information
about accused, charges and dispositions, case and trial histories,
appeals as well as scheduling information on crown attorneys, judges
and locations. |
| |
|
AIMSOFT SOLUTIONS: |
| |
|
Aimsoft, in the beginning, provided immediate assistance by solving
production issues. The Case Tracking System was not fully completed
and hence had a lot of loose end and bugs in its logic.
Then
Aimsoft
invested in learning the application software and upgraded the
software to become Y2K compliant. Date sensitivity, due the nature
of the business, was very high in the software. The AS/400 machine
as well as its operating system were also upgraded in 1999. On an on
going basis, Aimsoft provided system and software support for the
AS/400 and the Case Tracking System as there is no in-house staff
familiar with the solution. |
